The Effects on The Retired Elder¡¯s Life Satisfaction of Decision Type for Retirement and Preparedness for Aging

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyse the effects on the retired elder`s life satisfaction of the decision type for retirement and the preparedness for aging empirically and then to discuss implications for the findings. Data from 3 wave of Korean Retirement and Income Study(KReIS) in 2009 were used in this study. From this dataset, available data for 1,313 elders aged between 56 and 70 were selected for this study. The results of analysis are summarized as follows. First, the voluntary retirement of the retired elder have positive effects on their economic life satisfaction significantly but no effect on retired elders` life satisfaction for health or total life satisfaction. Second, the preparedness for aging of the retired elder have positive effects on their economic life satisfaction and total life satisfaction significantly but no effect on retired elders` life satisfaction for health. In conclusion, it is found that the decision type for retirement and the preparedness for aging affect differently by life satisfaction type of the retired elder. In the context, this study suggests that policy makers have to reflect the life satisfaction type of the elders when they design retirement preparation programs to improve the life satisfaction type of the retired elders.
